China technology giant Tencent has released plans for constructing a total car-free “city of the future” with the size of Monaco in Shenzhen.
The city is called “Net City” with 2 million square meter that pedestrians, green spaces and self-driving vehicles will be prioritized in the design. The city can provide a capacity for 80,000 people and primarily serve Tencent.
Apart from company residences and offices, other public facilities like shops, schools and other public amenities will be included in the city. Entertainment venues, parks and waterside promenade is expected to attract visitors from other cities in China.
Tencent wants to make the city innovative and flourish. The city will minimize the impact of the car as much as possible. Pubic transportation is still included in parts of the neighborhood. “A green corridor” is designed for buses, bikes and autonomous vehicles.
